Joe served as chancellor of the Episcopal Church Diocese of Alabama, vice-chair of the Board of Directors of the Birmingham Downtown YMCA, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alabama Arthritis Foundation, and chairman of the Alabama Educational Television Foundation Board.
In 1997, Joe received the Walter P. Gewin Award from the Alabama State Bar for his contributions to Continuing Legal Education.

Ala. 2010) We successfully represented Grand Slam/Ovis on its claims of copyright and trademark infringement as well as intentional tortious interference with business and in defending against claims of tortious interference and breach of contract. After a two week jury trial in January 2008, the jury rendered verdicts for our client on all counts, and awarded our client damages totaling $1.9 million. The court denied defendants’ numerous post-trial motions and entered a permanent injunction in favor of our client. Pursuant to a settlement agreement that avoided an appeal, the court entered a modified injunction in December 2010 and released $1,650,000 to our client from defendants’ cash bond. Litigation against corporate senior management Represents Healthsouth Corporation in matters relating to claims against former senior management officials. Summary judgment Represented Raytheon Corporation (Beech Division) in obtaining summary judgment in a case involving the crash of an airplane. Upholding an arbitration award against claims of misconduct Successfully represented Capstone Development Corporation in a trial seeking to uphold an arbitration award against claims of misconduct by the arbitrator.
